The
grapes for this stunning Napa Valley Cabernet
Sauvignon were planted in 1977. The
beautiful, gnarley-head, pruned vines were dry
farmed near the corner of Grant Avenue and Greenwood
Avenue in Calistoga. The vines were 32
years old in 2004. The crop was small and
ripened early. The grapes were hand-picked
in late September at 24.5 brix.
The resultant, smooth-textured, supple and graceful
wine is spectacular, featuring harmonious aromas
of cedar, tobacco and cigar box, clove, and elegant
French oak. The stylish palate shows flavors
of black cherry, cedar and Juniper berry that
segues into toasty oak, black fruit flavors and
cedar character on a well balanced finish.
All of this and we only made 240 cases. This
wine is very approachable now and will cellar
well. Enjoy!
